Painting With Markers & Ink Pens Tutorial

In this 1 hour fully narrated HD tutorial, with real time footage, I talk through my process of coloring a character sketch using markers and ink pens.

This tutorial starts out by detailing the materials I'll be using and is followed by an in depth walk through of the following "Basic Steps Summary" that I will break down within the hour: 

       1. Outline and shade/color over pencil sketch with 2-3 gray tones.

       2. For each color block area, apply 3 tones of color over the gray tones.

       3. Apply dark gray ink pen to the darkest points/areas of the piece.

       4. Apply watered down white paint to create lighter tones, then reapply for harder highlights. 

These 4 steps get referenced throughout each section of the character portrait as we tackle skin tones, eyes, hair, and background work. 

I've learned a lot over the years from both trial and error, experimentation, and studying the greats like Terrance Unchained and Kim Jung Gi. My goal in this tutorial is to showcase how you can elevate a marker drawing to look more painterly. By using the techniques noted in this tutorial, along with practice, you can achieve the same.
